Carry-On Baggage Safety Guidelines
For security reasons, all knives, sharp objects or cutting implements of any kind and of any length, whether of metal or other material and some sporting goods must be packed in checked baggage. They cannot be carried into the passenger cabin in carry-on baggage or on your person. If carried onboard, these articles will be removed and not returned.
These items include (but are not limited to):
- knives (including household cutlery) and knife-like objects
- box cutters
- corkscrew
- straight razors
- metal nail files, scissors of any kind and of any length
- dangerous goods (hazardous materials (unless approved))
- tradesmen's tools
- hypodermic needles (unless required for medical reasons)
- knitting needles
- other sharp pointed/penetrating objects and sporting goods such as bats, bows and arrows, cues, darts, golf clubs and sling shots (catapults)
- material arts devices
- real / toy / replica weapons (whether plastic or metal)
On all flights, liquids, gels and powder such as:
perfumes, shaving foams, deodorants, gels. Sprays, Shampoo, lotions, creams, toothpaste, oils, mascara, drinks, soups, syrups, etc, may only be taken through security in small quantities as follows:
- All containers, with a maximum capacity of 100ml, must be packed in a transparent, re-sealable one (01) liter plastic bag
- Only one bag is permitted per passenger
- The bag must be completely sealed
- Medicines and special food (e.g. baby food) required during the flight do not need to be carried in the plastic bag.
- All above items have to be presented at the security check.
Restrictions on Carrying Dangerous Goods
The classification dangerous goods applies to all goods and substances that may pose a danger to a person's health or safety, property or the environment. The air transport of dangerous goods is strictly regulated worldwide and dangerous goods regulations apply on all Royal Jordanian flights – if your trip includes flights operated by other airlines, please see their baggage regulations.
Forbidden Items
The following list covers ‘Dangerous Goods ‘items that are forbidden to be carried in or as passenger checked or carry-on baggage:
- Security type equipment such as attaché cases, cash boxes, cash bags, etc. containing dangerous goods such as explosives, compressed gases, lithium batteries and/or pyrotechnic material.
- Explosives, munitions, fireworks and flares.
- Gases (flammable, non-flammable, deeply refrigerated and poisonous) such as camping gas and aerosols.
- Flammable liquids such as lighter fuels, paints and thinner.
- Flammable solids, such as matches and articles, which are easily ignited; substances liable to spontaneous combustion, substances, which on contact with water emit flammable gases.
- “Strike anywhere” matches.
- “Blue Flame” or “Cigar” lighters.
- Oxidizing substances (such as bleaching powder and peroxides).
- Poisonous (toxic) and infectious substances.
- Radioactive materials.
- Corrosives (such as mercury which may be contained in thermometers, acids, alkalis and wet-cell batteries).
- Disabling devices such as mace, pepper spray, etc. containing an irritant or incapacitating substance.
- Magnetized materials and miscellaneous dangerous goods as listed in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.
- Liquid Oxygen Devices: Personal medical oxygen devices that utilize liquid oxygen
- Electro shock weapons (e.g. Tasers) containing dangerous goods such as explosives, compressed gases, lithium batteries, etc.
- Small Vehicles Powered by Lithium Batteries such as airwheel, solowheel, hoverboard, mini-segway, balance-wheel.
- Samsung Note 7 device
Items that may be carried in or as passenger checked or carry-on baggage or on one's person but are still restricted to specific limits on quantities or dimensions:
- Medicinal or Toiletry Articles; Non-radioactive medicinal or toiletry articles (including aerosols) such as hair sprays, perfumes, colognes and medicines containing alcohols.
- Cylinders for Mechanical Limbs; Small cylinders worn for the operation of mechanical limbs. Also, spare cylinders of a similar size if required to ensure an adequate supply for the duration of the journey.
- Cardiac Pacemakers/Radio-pharmaceuticals; Radioisotopic cardiac pacemakers or other devices, including those powered by lithium batteries, implanted into a person, or radiopharmaceuticals contained within the body of a person as the result of medical treatment.
- Medical/Clinical Thermometer; One small medical or clinical thermometer which contains mercury, for personal use, when in its protective case.“this applies in checked baggage only
- Safety Matches or Cigarette Lighter; One small packet of safety matches or a cigarette lighter that does not contain unabsorbed liquid fuel, other than liquefied gas, intended for use by an individual when carried on the person. Cigarette lighters should have two independent actions by the user to activate ignition.
- Alcoholic Beverages
- Hair Curlers; containing hydrocarbon gas, no more than one per passenger, provided that the safety cover is securely fitted over the heating element. These hair curlers must not be used on board the aircraft at any time. Gas refills for such curlers are not permitted in checked or carry-on baggage.
- Portable Electronic Devices including medical devices containing batteries such as (POC, cameras, mobile phones, laptops, tablets and power banks) should be carried in carry-on baggage.
- Fuel Cell Systems Contained in Portable Electronic Devices for example cameras, cellular phones, laptop computers, and camcorders), and spare fuel cell cartridges, under certain conditions.
- Energy Efficient Light Bulbs when in retail packaging intended for personal or home use.
- Insulated Packages Containing Refrigerated Liquid Nitrogen (Dry Shipper)
- Electronic Cigarettes containing batteries: Electronic cigarettes including e-cigars, e-pipes and other personal vaporizers containing batteries can be carried in carry-on baggage only. Using or Recharging of these devices and/or batteries onboard the aircraft is not permitted
- Aerosols with no subsidiary risk, for sporting or home use.
Items that requires the airline's approval prior to flying which may be carried in or as passenger checked baggage only;
- Ammunition; Securely packaged ammunition (cartridges for weapons, small arms)
- Wheelchairs/Mobility Aids with Non-spillable Batteries
- Wheelchairs/Mobility Aids with Spillable Batteries
- Wheelchairs/Mobility Aids with Lithium Batteries
- Camping Stoves and Fuel Containers that have contained a Flammable Liquid Fuel
- Security-Type Equipment
Items that requires the airline's approval prior to flying which may be carried in or as passenger carry-on baggage only;
- Mercury Barometer or Thermometer; The barometer or thermometer must be packed in a strong outer packaging, having a sealed inner liner or a bag of strong leak-proof and puncture-resistant material impervious to mercury.
- Spare Lithium Batteries for portable medical electronic devices such as, automated external defibrillators (AED), Portable oxygen concentrator (POC) and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and for portable electronic devices such as power tools, video cameras and laptops
Items that requires the airline's approval prior to flying which may be carried in or as passenger checked or carry-on baggage;
- Non-flammable Gas Cylinder fitted into a Life Jacket
- Avalanche Rescue Backpack
- Chemical Agent Monitoring Equipment
- Carbon Dioxide, Solid (Dry Ice)
- Heat Producing Articles
- Lithium Battery-Powered Electronic Devices; Portable Medical Electronic Devices, such as automated external defibrillators (AED), Portable oxygen concentrator (POC) and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and portable electronic devices such as power tools, video cameras and laptops.
